Waikiki Beach is usually crowded but is a very nice area where one can swim, canoe, surf and snorkel. Ala Moana Beach One of the finer, all around family parks on O`ahu, Ala Moana - which is Hawaiian for the "Path to the Sea" - consists of a beach and general recreation area of more than one hundred acres -- when combined with the adjacent "Magic Island" - Aina Moana's - thirty lovely acres.\ Hanauma Bay Hanauma Bay Nature Park is one of the more popular recreational swimming, snorkeling and picnicking areas on O`ahu. The bay itself is legally designated as a State Underwater Park and Conservation District. The bay is the result of the ocean's breaching and incursion into two volcano craters. This most beautiful of places is ideal - if you are a new SCUBA diver or snorkeler; and - just for swimming.Hanauma Bay Nature Park closes down all day on Tuesdays; all other days it's open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There is a US$3.00 entrance fee if you are a non-resident; free entrance - if you can show valid local identification. There is a US$1.00 per car parking fee. NORTH SHORE BEACHES THE NORTH SHORE is known for its world-class surfing, body boarding, body surfing, [Bodysurfing the Banzai Pipeline!] great swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving in the Summer months. Caution is advised especially during the Winter months when the high surf's waves may reach heights of up to twenty-five feet plus. The surf can rise quickly going from two feet to twenty-five feet high and larger during the course of a day. (The waves have been "cranking up" to fifty feet plus in recent Winters at Waimea - totally awesome, but also totally dangerous!) Waimea Bay Beach Waimea Bay Beach Park is home of the largest, dangerous, most spectacular, rideable surf in the world. When the surf's up, often to thirty plus feet, even just the inshore break can be big - sometimes even as high as twelve feet. There's also a strong rip current running out at the center of the bay that can be treacherous.During the Summer the waters are calm and great for swimming. But during the Winter - watch out - even the most experienced of water persons and surfers think twice before entering the waters or even going near the shore break when the swells are large and fast and deadly. Experienced, best surfers in the world ask the lifeguards about conditions, and you should, too!
